Tired Eyes Update

21 Hours, Economics, Hard Work, Optimistic, Wellbeing,

Here is an update on the Tired Eyes project. In brief everything is good!

I missed the deadline for the Brighton Fringe registration, which I was hoping to enter Tired Eyes as a review show but the deadline was always tight. Instead I've continued to research for the project which has been enormously encouraging as much of my thinking fits very nicely with a new wave of economic and political thought on how we should restructure our work and communities to create sustainable and happy lives. I am now beginning to write and am planning to publish my writing as booklets/reports instead perhaps.

In the meantime I have created a blog for my website which was amazingly easy to set up with WordPress. I am hoping to use the blog to express my ideas and views on current events. It doesn't matter if nobody reads it, getting the thoughts out, instead of letting them brew in my head has to be a good thing.

I am planning to blog about the New Economics Foundation report 21 hours, which calls for a shorter working week of 21 hours full-time, over the next decade. By reducing working hours, we can depart from the consumer society that is using up precious resources and move towards an economy with wellbeing in mind. This is a society where we spend more time with our families and helping to build our communities. Also it shows, when working hours are reduced productivity is higher per hour. I believe this is because hard work is less efficient than working well. The report can be found here.

So I feel things are progressing nicely and I am feeling very optimistic about life in general at the moment.

Hi Rob, good to hear that things are going well. Would you consider putting your piece in to another theatre festival? There are a few small ones going on in London - I could look into it if you're interested.

The report sounds interesting - look forward to reading your response.

Maybe

Hi Helen,

Possibly. I enjoy writing scripts and I think a show, especially with comedy, could work well but it would have to be later this year. Although I'd be more tempted to aim for next year's fringe in Brighton.

In the meantime, writing published reports appeals to me at the moment and I believe there is a wide community of people that will be interested in them. I am sort of getting there in a roundabout kind of way!
